2009 CAPLAW National Training Conference

Pre-Conference Tour:
Seattle’s Fight against Poverty and Racism

Join us Tuesday morning, June 23 from 8:00 a.m.–12:15 p.m. for a tour highlighting Seattle’s fight against poverty and racism.

Among the sites featured on the tour will be the new 10,000 square foot social services facility built by Neighborhood House (www.nhwa.org). The facility houses Head Start, job-assistance, senior citizen, computer and English language programs for low-income families in Rainer Vista, one of Seattle’s recently revitalized public housing garden communities.

We will also visit Sand Point Naval Station where Solid Ground (www.solid-ground.org) helped convert six decommissioned Navy buildings into 94 units of transitional housing for hard-working families and individuals overcoming homelessness. Solid Ground not only manages the existing housing facilities at Sand Point but also has assumed leadership in developing up to 106 additional units onsite.

The tour will include Seattle neighborhoods and landmarks accompanied by information about Solid Ground’s acclaimed Anti-Racism Initiative. Continental breakfast and lunch at the hotel will be included in the tour price.

Cost is $50 per person. Space is limited. Pre-registration, including payment, is required. Register for the tour on the conference registration form and, on the morning of the tour, please plan to meet us in the lobby of the hotel near the fireplace at 8:00 a.m.
